Why Bee?

A total of eight bee species listed on the endangered species list. These eight species are on the list due to habitat loss, invasive species, and in some cases, natural disasters, yet the root causes behind all of these can be easily laid at humanity’s feet. The worst part is nearly 40 percent of the world’s insect species are presently in decline. Yet while not every bee in the world is rare enough to be considered “endangered,” many populations are in decline.

Importance of Bee to the world?

Bees are one of the most important pollinator in the world. Pollinators contributes to food security of humankind and affects 70% of corp planation. “If the bee disappeared off the face of the Earth, man would only have four years left to live.” ~ Albert Einstein

Bee Situation in Hong Kong

We evaluate the bee conservation situation for a loccation using our Bee index. The optimal beehive index (Beehive/ square km) should be >3. Hong Kong current index is around 0.002, which is 0.02% of Paris and 2.19% of Tokyo. We need to build more than 1000+ bee hives in Hong Kong in order to reach the biodiversity equilibirum, meaning an average of 92 beehives needs to planted in the 18 districts.

Hong Kong Bee Ambassadors

To get the next generation involved in beekeeping and create a ripple effect of bee education, we have established the Hong Kong Bee Ambassadors program for university students. Students have the opportunity to get hands-on experience of handling bees and participate in the upkeep of beehives.
